Step 1:
Mark the center of each front tire, width wise, with a pen or chalk.
This will give you a visual reference mark on each tire.
(You can usually use the split line that is left around the tire from the
mold.)
Step
2: With the front of the car in the
air, roll each tire so the mark is at the 3:00 position. (Towards the rear of
the car.) Fig 2
Step 3:
Loosen the thumbscrew on the M-3085 Toe In Gauge and set the pointers to
line up with the marks on the tires. Make
sure that the gauge is held level, and tighten the thumbscrew. Fig 3.
Step
4: Rotate both tires around so the
mark is now at the 9:00 position. (Towards the front of the car) Fig 2
Step
5: Flip the gauge end for end and
set the pointer of one end of the M-3085 Toe In Gauge on the mark of one of the
tires. Now measure the distance for
the end of the pointer to the mark on the opposite tire.
This should measure 1/8” – 3/16” SHORTER than the set
dimension of the M-3085 Toe In Gauge. Fig 1.
Make sure the gauge is held level. Fig
3. Adjust tie rods as needed
to set this dimension.
Step
6: Once you have the proper
adjustment, set the car down on the ground.
Make sure you have the marks on the tires rotated to the 3:00 position.
(Towards the rear of the car) Fig 2. Repeat
Step 3,4 &5. This assures that
the weight of the car does not change the toe in.
The M-3085 Toe In Gauge is designed to allow you to
check the toe in accurately without having to remove your fuel tank or
management boxes and to clear the frame rails and any other obstacles that may
be in the way.
